Peter H. Jones, MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine, Section of Atherosclerosis and Lipid Research, Department of Medicine, and Codirector of the Lipid Metabolism and Atherosclerosis Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. He is also Director of Continuing Medical Education and Medical Director of the Institute for Preventive Medicine Obesity Program.
   Dr Jones has been a leader in cardiovascular research and in the training of future physicians for most of the last 20 years. After graduating summa cum laude from Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia, he began a long-standing affiliation with the Baylor College of Medicine, where he earned a degree in medicine, completed an internship and residency, and attained a faculty appointment. In addition to his active clinical practice and research, he participates in several academic and advisory committees.
   Dr Jones' research has focused on the nature of hyperlipidemia in heart transplant patients, clinical endpoint trials with statins, and evaluating the efficacy and safety of statin drugs. His work has been presented in more than 90 articles, abstracts, books, and lectures.
   He has also served as chairman of the Morbidity and Mortality Review Committee for the Lipoprotein Coronary Atherosclerosis Study (LCAS) and as a member of the Interdisciplinary Council on Lipids and Cardiovascular Risk Intervention and the steering committee of the Air Force/Texas Coronary Atherosclerosis Prevention Study (AFCAPS/TexCAPS). Dr Jones is currently a fellow with the Council on Arteriosclerosis for the American Heart Association.
